Travel with a purpose and join Sisters Traveling Solo for our Cultural Experience to Tanzania.  Our cultural experiences are designed to be less touristy and focus more on understanding the culture, people and history of each Country we visit. 

During our trip in Tanzania we spend time in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar!

*Note: Our travel from Dar Es Salaam will be by ferry.

1st trip payment will be due on March 15, 2019.  Non refundable payments due on the 15th of each month. Monthly payments are due on the 15th regardless of when the deposit is made.

Anyone without a roommate will be paired with another member on the trip.  If you have a roommate, you will be asked for your roommate information 2 months before the trip departure date.  Please avoid emailing us your request after booking.

Sisters Traveling Solo is traveling with a purpose! Our Cultural Experiences are a lot less touristy and are designed around food, history and people.  These trips will provide you with an in depth understanding of the Country we are visiting.  


On our Cultural Experiences we will work with the experts, the locals.  For these trips we specifically decided to partner with a local guide who is also a woman, so that our money helps support another Sister.  

These trips will not only affordable, but the trip cost won't change or increase.  And no extra fees are charged to those who prefer to use our trip payment options. 


All your travel needs will be handled from the moment you land.  We handle airport transfers, local transportation, accommodation needs, and connect you with other Sisters who share the same passion as you! Your only responsibility is booking your flight and enjoying Tanzania!


— Itinerary 

DAY 1 (Feb. 1st) - Dar Es Salaam

Arrive at Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. You will be met by one of our drivers, and transferred to our hotel for a short orientation. After check-in, take the rest of the afternoon at leisure rewinding from the long flight.

In the evening, we will all get together for a welcome dinner.  Over dinner, we will get to know each other.

DAY 2 (Feb. 2nd) - Dar Es Salaam

Today after breakfast, we will head out to explore the city of Dar. After some sight seeing we will stop for lunch.  For lunch we will head out to one of best restaurants for a traditional Swahili family style lunch experience. Smell and feel the meal with your bare hands before tasting the fresh favors of Swahili food. 

After lunch we meet the cast of a Swahili musical play for a live performance and Bahaya dance class with the cast. Be prepared to move, sweat, laugh, think, cry, and challenge yourself in this workshop.

DAY 3 (Feb. 3rd) - Dar Es Salaam

Today after breakfast, we will head out to for a 2 hour drive to the village of Bagamoyo. We will take a walking/bike tour of the historical beach village. Bagamoyo was the major slave trading post in East Africa. Bagamoyo, which means ‘lay down your heart’ in Swahili, was probably given this name because Bagamoyo was the last place the slaves would stay in Tanzania before being shipped off to foreign lands

After our visit to the village, we will have a picnic lunch at a 26-hectare Mango plantation. We will enjoy Tanzanian made wines, along with meet one of the makers. Smell and feel the meal with your bare hands before tasting the fresh favors of Swahili BBQ food. 

After lunch, meet a famous musical wagogo family. Discover their history and family stories. Enjoy a traditional dance class with local musician and dancers. Be prepared to move, sweat, laugh, think, cry, and challenge yourself in this workshop. 

This evening is yours to relax after a day seeing the sights.

DAY 4 (Feb. 4th) - Dar Es Salaam

Day 4 is all about relaxation and shopping.  in the morning we will depart on a small boat for the beautiful white sand beach of Mbudya Island, located 20 minutes away from Dar. Be sure to wear your swimsuit, this is the perfect island for swimming. After a day of relaxing on the island, you will have a break for lunch.  

After lunch we will depart for Slipway market. After shopping you can enjoy a delicious dinner over looking the ocean.

DAY 5 (Feb. 5th) - Zanzibar

Today, after an early breakfast, we will check out of our hotel and depart to catch the ferry to Zanzibar.  We will check into our hotel then enjoy a group lunch. 

The rest of day and evening is yours to relax or explore Zanzibar.

DAY 6 (Feb. 6th) - Zanzibar

After breakfast, you will enjoy a historical and slave tour that will immerse you in local Swahili culture as you travel back in time. Once your historical tour is done, you will head to the Seaweed farm.  To learn the process of seaweed farming and meet the seaweed women.  

After the Seaweed experience, depart for the Rock Restaurant for a late lunch with the view of the Indian. Its fabulous food inspired by the natural resources, a twist of Zanzibar, and Italian love.

DAY 7 (Feb. 7th) - Zanzibar

After breakfast we will depart for a cross island tour, starting with Spice farm, where you will learn all about the different spices and how they grow and taste. You will make your own spice mix.  

After the spice tour, drive south of the Island to meet with the seaweed ladies at the factory for an experience of how Seaweed is grown, harvested and packaged. You will have a chance to support the women by purchasing amazing products. 


Tonight you can head over to the Music Festival* which is an optional activity.

Based on this year we will be in Zanzibar during the time of the festival; however, 

we cannot guarantee that until the dates are released.  Trip dates will not change

if for some reason the concert dates change. 

Every mid February, Sauti za Busara takes center stage at the Old Fort in Stone Town, Zanzibar. Its a four days, East Africa’s favorite festival will feature:  

Live Music: World-class performances with 400 artists (40 groups) on 3 stages, 100% live!

Carnival Parade: Bringing more buzz to Zanzibar Town and outlying areas

Swahili Encounters: Local and visiting artists meet, exchange and create collaborations

Movers & Shakers: Local and global industry professionals meet, network and exchange

Busara Xtra: Fringe events across the island, as organised by local communities  

Optional: Attend the Festival starting at 7pm from Thursday to Saturday

DAY 8 (Feb. 8th) - Zanzibar


DAY 9 (Feb. 9th) - Dar Es Salaam

After breakfast, we will depart for the ferry ride to Dar es Salaam. This afternoon is yours to relax or do some additional shopping. 


This evening you will meet for our farewell dinner.

DAY 10 (Feb. 10th) - Dar Es Salaam

On Your final day, we will enjoy breakfast and begin to depart for the airport. The last transfer will depart at our 11am check out time.

Airport Transfers – We’ll arrange your airport pickup and drop off from Julius Nyerere International Airport.   And coordinate with our drivers to get you and a few others from the airport to our Riad.


Local Transportation - All ground transportation to and from our activities.

Meals -  Daily breakfast, (4) lunches, and (2) dinners included (does not include alcohol or desserts).

Hotel Lodging - Each room includes 2 Twin Beds (double occupancy) or 1 Double bed (single occupancy)

Roommates – If you do not have a paid roommate, we will pair you with another STS member.  If you have a roommate who has paid their deposit, please provide us with their name and we will pair you two.

— Payment Terms

Full Payment Special - $100 off total cost if full payment is made on 3/15/19  

A $75 late charge will be applied to all payments made after the 3-day grace period.  Missed payments will be applied to the next month plus the $75 late fee. Trip will be automatically cancelled after two missed payments.  No refund of deposit or payments will be provided to a trip cancelled due to missed payments.

— Invoices

Payments will made via an invoice.  Invoice can be paid via Visa, Mastercard, AMEX or Discover card. Invoices are sent to the email address that members provide.  It is guest responsibility to sign up to the client portal to make payments for each trip each month. (1) invoice is sent to guest each month, invoices are sent to clients at least 10 days before they are due. 

— Refund Policy

24 hour cancellation.  

Deposit will be refunded upon request 24 hours after trip has been booked. After 24 hours of booking no refunds of deposits will be given.

Non-refundable deposit and payments. After 24 hours of booking no refunds of deposits or payments will be given.


Deposit Transfer to Future Trips - If you request to cancel your trip, the trip deposit only can be used toward a future Sisters Traveling Solo group trip (traditional or cultural, excludes Solo Getaways) that you are not currently making payments.  If you have paid a deposit or made any payments on a trip that is not considered a future trip.  A future trip is one in which no money has been exchanged between you the member and Sisters Traveling Solo; deposit or payments.  

For deposit transfer request, the deposit on the trip you are cancelling is applied to the 1st payment on the the future trip. You, the member would pay your deposit for the future trip, and your deposit will be credited towards the 1st payment of that future trip.


Deposit transfer request for for either trip must be received via email only at the following address before August 15, 2019 (11:59 pm eastern standard time). Trip transfer request not received via email will not be accepted. After August 15, 2019 (11:59 pm eastern standard time) trip deposit cannot  be transferred to another Sisters Traveling Solo trip.  

If your trip is cancelled due to you missing two consecutive trip payments, you cannot apply the deposit to any future Sisters Traveling Solo trips no matter when the trip was cancelled.   

We highly encourage you to purchase travel insurance in case you have to cancel your trip so that if you have to cancel, your travel insurance policy can reimburse you.

— Required After Deposit Is Paid

Travel InsuranceTravel insurance can be obtained when you purchase your flight.  You will be asked to show proof of travel insurance a month before we depart.  A minimum of $250,000 in travel insurance is REQUIRED. Travel insurance can be obtain when you purchase your flight or with World Nomad.

Failure to provide required information 1 month before trip departure date is cause for forfeit of trip without any refunds.  Sisters Traveling Solo will not travel with or include anyone in trip activities.
