During our trip in Tanzania we spend time in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar!

A valid passport is required to travel to Tanzania.  The passport must be valid for 6 months past the trip return date.  Attendees are responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary documents to travel out of their Country.


Depending on your Country of residency, a visa may also be required. US Citizens will need a visa to enter Tanzania.  Visa must be obtained before trip departure.  Anyone obtaining a visa upon arrival will be responsible for their own transport to hotel.  Attendees are responsible for obtaining the necessary visa.

All your travel needs will be handled from the moment you land.  We handle airport transfers, local transportation, accommodation needs, and connect you with other Sisters who share the same passion as you! Your only responsibility is booking your flight and enjoying Tanzania!

— Itinerary 


DAY 1 (Feb. 2nd) - Dar Es Salaam

Arrive at Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. You will be met by one of our drivers, and transferred to our hotel for a short orientation. After check-in, take the rest of the afternoon at leisure rewinding from the long flight.

In the evening, we will all get together for a welcome dinner.  Over dinner, we will get to know each other. 

DAY 2 (Feb. 3rd) - Dar Es Salaam

Today after breakfast, we will head out to explore the city of Dar. After some sight seeing we will stop for lunch.  For lunch we will head out to one of best restaurants for a traditional Swahili family style lunch experience. Smell and feel the meal with your bare hands before tasting the fresh favors of Swahili food. 

After lunch we meet the cast of a Swahili musical play for a live performance and Bahaya dance class with the cast. Be prepared to move, sweat, laugh, think, cry, and challenge yourself in this workshop. 


We will end our 1st full day in Dar Es Salaam with a Dar nightlife experience after a group dinner.

DAY 3 (Feb. 4th) - Dar Es Salaam

Today after breakfast, we will head out to for a 2 hour drive to the village of Bagamoyo. We will take a walking/bike tour of the historical beach village. Bagamoyo was the major slave trading post in East Africa. Bagamoyo, which means ‘lay down your heart’ in Swahili, was probably given this name because Bagamoyo was the last place the slaves would stay in Tanzania before being shipped off to foreign lands

After our visit to the village, we will have a picnic lunch at a 26-hectare Mango plantation. We will enjoy Tanzanian made wines, along with meet one of the makers. Smell and feel the meal with your bare hands before tasting the fresh favors of Swahili BBQ food. 

After lunch, meet a famous musical wagogo family. Discover their history and family stories. Enjoy a traditional dance class with local musician and dancers. Be prepared to move, sweat, laugh, think, cry, and challenge yourself in this workshop. 

This evening is yours to relax after a day seeing the sights.

DAY 4 (Feb. 5th) - Dar Es Salaam

Day 4 is all about relaxation and shopping.  Feel free to wake up early for breakfast or sleep in.  We will start our day late morning around 11 am with some souvenir shopping at the famous local shops.  We will visit Mwenge market first then Slipway market. After shopping we enjoy a delicious lunch over looking the ocean.  

After lunch we will depart for the beautiful white sand beach of Mbudya Island, located 20 minutes away from Dar. Be sure to wear your swimsuit, this is the perfect island for swimming. 

Later this evening we will enjoy a group dinner. 

DAY 5 (Feb. 6th) - Zanzibar

Today, after an early breakfast, we will check out of our hotel and depart to catch the ferry to Zanzibar.  We will check into our hotel then head out for a historical tour.  This historical and slave tour will immerse you in local Swahili culture as you travel back in time. 

The rest of day and evening is yours to relax or explore Zanzibar. 

DAY 6 (Feb. 7th) - Zanzibar


After breakfast, we will head to a small village of Fumba. Fumba is a village on the Tanzanian island of Unguja, part of Zanzibar. It is located in the southwest of the island, at the end of the Fumba Peninsula, and overlooks Menai Bay.


We will hop on a boat to the beautiful sandbank. Cruising the Indian Ocean today we will island hop, go swimming, go snorkeling for corals, and just enjoy the beautiful beaches of Zanzibar. 

We will finish this day with a group dinner. 

DAY 7 (Feb. 8th) - Zanzibar

After breakfast we will depart for a cross island tour, starting with Spice farm, where you will learn all about the different spices and how they grow and taste. You will make your own spice mix.  

After the spice tour, drive south of the Island to meet with the seaweed ladies at the factory for an experience of how Seaweed is grown, harvested and packaged. You will have a chance to support the women by purchasing amazing products. 


After the Seaweed experience, depart for the Rock Restaurant for a early dinner with the view of the Indian. Its fabulous food inspired by the natural resources, a twist of Zanzibar, and Italian love.


Tonight we will head over to the Music Festival* which is an optional activity.

Based on this year we will be in Zanzibar during the time of the festival; however, 

we cannot guarantee that until the dates are released.  Trip dates will not change

if for some reason the concert dates change. 

Every mid February, Sauti za Busara takes center stage at the Old Fort in Stone Town, Zanzibar. Its a four days, East Africa’s favorite festival will feature:

Carnival Parade: Bringing more buzz to Zanzibar Town and outlying areas

DAY 8 (Feb. 9th) - Zanzibar

Today we will explore Zanzibar's biggest and busiest local market. Enjoy shopping for food and learning about the history of the market. Located just on the edge of the ancient lanes of Stone Town is Darajani Market, one of the central markets in the Zanzibar. 

After our local market shopping, we return to make a homemade lunch with market fresh ingredients with the local Zanzibari women or local chef. We will join the women in preparation dressed in Zanzibari wear. Sit down for a meal and chat with the women. 

This evening is yours to enjoy. 

DAY 9 (Feb. 10th) - Dar Es Salaam

After breakfast, we will depart for the ferry ride to Dar es Salaam. This afternoon is yours to relax or do some additional shopping. 


This evening we will meet for our farewell dinner. Dress in your best Tanzanian outfit for a night that will revisit your experience in Tanzania. 

DAY 10 (Feb. 11th) - Dar Es Salaam

On our final day, we will enjoy breakfast and begin to depart for the airport. The last transfer will depart at our 11am check out time.

Private Facebook Group - Once deposit has been paid, you will receive an invitation to our private Facebook group.  In the group, we answer all questions you may have regarding your upcoming trip.  The private Facebook group allows you to connect with others before you go, share travel tips, and maintain friendships when you return.

'Know Before You Go' Call - To ensure you are all ready for your trip, we will hold a conference call two weeks before the trip to go over our 'Know Before You Go' document. 

Airport Transfers – We’ll arrange your airport pickup and drop off from Julius Nyerere International Airport.   And coordinate with our drivers to get you and a few others from the airport to our Riad.


Local Transportation - All ground transportation to and from our activities.


Accommodations - 10 days, 9 nights 4 Star Accommodations Star

Non-refundable deposit due to guarantee booking.  If you cancel your trip your deposit can be applied to a future Sisters Traveling Solo (STS) trip if your trip is not cancelled because of missed payments.  If your trip is cancelled due to missed payments, you cannot apply the deposit to any future STS trips.

Full Payment Special - $100 off total cost if full payment is made on 2/5/18 - $2,695 per person for shared double room.  $3,095 for single room

Pay Remaining Balance over 8-month period (March - October) - Monthly payment is total cost of $2,795 double occupancy ($3,195 single occupancy) minus trip deposit dividend by 8. Payments are due on the 15th of each month regardless of when deposit is made.  Payments must be made on time.

A $75 late charge will be applied to all payments made after the 3-day grace period.  Missed payments will be applied to the next month plus the $75 late fee. Trip will be automatically cancelled after two missed payments.  No refund of deposit or payments will be provided to a trip cancelled due to missed payments.

Your trip must be paid in full by 10/15/18. Please contact us if you are having difficulties making your payment.

Non-refundable deposit due to guarantee booking.  

Full refunds minus the nonrefundable deposit will be given up until April 15, 2018.  After April 15, 2018, there will be no refunds.

Transfers to Other Trips - If you request to cancel your trip, the trip deposit can be used toward a future Sisters Traveling Solo trip that you are not currently making payments.  Transfer request must be received via email only at the following address before July 15, 2018 (11:59 pm eastern standard time). Trip transfer request not received via email will not be accepted. After July 15, 2018 (11:59 pm eastern standard time) trip deposit cannot  be transferred to another Sisters Traveling Solo trip.

If your trip is cancelled due to missed payments, you cannot apply the deposit to any future Sisters Traveling Solo trips no matter when the trip was cancelled.

Transfers to Other Members - You cannot transfer a Sisters Traveling Solo trip to anyone without prior approval by Sisters Traveling Solo.  Transfer request will only be accepted and communicated via email at  Only trips that are 100% paid can be transferred to another member.  You are responsible for coordinating transfer with other member. Last day to transfer is November 15, 2019 (11:59 pm eastern standard time). We will not accept any request for transfer after
November 15, 2019 (11:59 pm eastern standard time); no exceptions.


We highly encourage you to purchase travel insurance in case you have to cancel your trip so that if you have to cancel, your travel insurance policy can reimburse you

— Required After Deposit Is Paid

Travel InsuranceTravel insurance can be obtained when you purchase your flight.  You will be asked to show proof of travel insurance a month before we depart.  A minimum of $250,000 in travel insurance is REQUIRED. Travel insurance can be obtain when you purchase your flight or with World Nomad.

Failure to provide required information 1 month before trip departure date is cause for forfeit of trip without any refunds.  Sisters Traveling Solo will not travel with or include anyone in trip activities.
